Move to Colorado

View from the Lowes parking lot.

I was updating my website this morning and got sucked into reminiscing through this blog. It's nice to have a journal of memories so I thought I should document our first days in the new house.

This is our new view from the living room window. We have 5 acres on the edge of Black Forest, Colorado.

The house needs a lot of work, which is going to take time, but we are trying to make it home...well I'm having a bit of a hard time adjusting, I just want it to be done already lol.

The dogs are loving their new space.

My studio I haven't quite finished setting up. It's weird to me how houses are built here, we have 2 basement floors...the windows are underground so there are metal walls around them. Not very inspirational..I've been wondering if I can plant something in the little space outside the window lol

After being in the camper for a couple months I was excited to make my first cup of good coffee in the new kitchen.

The girls are in separate schools this year, Patience goes to middle school! The pickup/dropoff lines were terrible and took up hours of my time so we got them on the bus. They hate being the first ones on/last ones off because we live on the edge of the school district, but oh well, I was in the same situation as a kid living on a dirt road 45 min from school.
We adopted a cool cat that loves to snuggle and follows us around when we are outside.  The previous homeowners thought it would be best to keep her at her home and Gracie loved hanging out with her when we were in the process of buying the house so we didnt mind keeping her.
There's a lot of wildlife here. So far we have seen elk, antelope, bears, a fox, lots of falcons and other cool birds, and we have bunnies and deer that hang out in our yard.

We got some birds, there was already a coop on the property so I got 10 hens, a rooster, and a couple turkeys. I had to put them in my Landrover because Adam's truck was acting up, it was a stinky ride home.

We have been told that the falcons and owls will slaughter them so Adam has been working on making a chicken run with overhead fencing. The ground here isn't as hard as it was in Texas but after spending days digging holes with a post-hole digger I suggested we get a gas-powered one. He was pretty excited....

We got our first big snowfall a couple weeks ago.
Grandma sent some new winter jackets for the girls.

Gracie brought home Covid from school which we didn't know until I was sick for days. She had a fever for 3 days and was good, then I got it and still haven't recovered 100% and its been a month. Had every symptom you could think of except for the chest congestion and breathing issues...it was still absolutely terrible though, I thought I was going to die on day 10 and went to the ER. Patience had it for about a week. Adam was the only one that didn't get it, he's the only one vaccinated too...which made me regret not getting the vaccination.

When I started feeling better I wanted to get started on home improvement projects. I picked the smallest room, our tiny master bath, and it's been hell. The mirror, wainscotting, and linoleum were all glued down VERY well so once I got done with demo I was over it...still a work in progress, I had to do a lot of spackling to fix the walls. I still have to sand and paint the walls, then prep the subfloor. Hopefully we will have the tiling done this weekend...then on to the guest bath.

Colorado is definitely more enjoyable than San Antonio, we love the outdoors and cooler weather. I have been missing my beautiful Texas house but I have to keep imagining how awesome this fixer-upper will be when we are done. It's just going to take patience, hard work, and lots of money...now back to trying to find a job/freelance gig lol
