Shooting with Soul 5: Books

"Books are the mirrors of the soul"-Virginia Woolf

The books a person reads are supposed to tell you a lot about them.  While I would rather be reading my collection of classics, I haven't had the time between graphic design books and school assignments.

A couple years ago I decided that I wanted to read classic novels.  I think it was partly because I couldn't decide what to read next and figured that I couldn't go wrong with a classic.  Once I discovered that they were making all the classics into pretty bound collectibles I couldn't resist.  The main thing that I noticed while reading old novels is how much our range of vocabulary has diminished.  I am not sure if it is the fact that I grew up in the middle of nowhere or that I just didn't retain what I learned in English class but I feel that the list of words in my brain are very limited and from the conversations I have had with most people I am not the only one.  It's sad really.  I wish I could speak or write like the Bronte sisters.
My collection has just been sitting on the shelf recently while I trudge through design books for my college classes.  I really should replace my leisure social media scrolling with reading.
